A cloud desktop is a Windows desktop that runs in a data center and opens on any computer. For a small business that shares files and runs QuickBooks Desktop, the desktop itself is only one part of the bill. This page lists what a working setup has to include, what we charge for it, and what the cloud PCs Microsoft and Amazon rent per desktop leave out.

What a small business cloud desktop has to include

A Windows desktop for each person, reachable from any computer.
A server that holds the shared company files. In multi-user mode, Intuit has the QuickBooks company file kept in a shared folder on a server that every user’s QuickBooks opens.
The network that connects every desktop to that server.
Daily backups of the company files, and someone to restore them.
QuickBooks and your other business software installed and kept current.
A help desk for passwords, lockouts, stuck programs and staff changes.

Each is one person’s computer, and its price is for the desktop alone. The server for shared company files, the network that connects every desktop to it, installing and updating QuickBooks and your other software, and the help desk are not in it; those are yours to build and run, or to hire an IT provider to run. Microsoft 365 apps need their own license on Windows 365, and Office is not in Amazon’s prices.

Do cloud desktop prices include Microsoft Office?

Can staff work from home on a cloud desktop?

Yes. Staff sign in from any computer with a web browser and work in the same cloud desktop, with QuickBooks Desktop and the business's other licensed software installed on it.

What does a cloud PC leave out for QuickBooks Desktop?

In multi-user mode QuickBooks keeps the company file on a server that every user's QuickBooks opens. A cloud PC is one person's computer, so the server and the network to it are yours to set up and run. A hosting provider such as EEZYCLOUD runs that server for you.
